Derren Brown, a renowned psychological illusion specialist, is set to make his return to Channel 4 with his latest one-man live stage show, “Showman.” This is his first appearance on the channel in three years since his special program, “Derren Brown, 20 Years of Mind Control: Live,” was aired in 2020.
Showman is Brown’s most intimate and emotional show to date, revolving around the theme of how life’s challenges can bring people together and encourage individuals to live life with attentiveness. Over 500,000 people attended the show during its 14-week run at London’s Apollo Theatre, and it concluded earlier this month. He says:
“It’s had the best response of any show I’ve done. It’s lovely to know, and I’ve been very touched to read and hear people’s responses to it so far – it’s a very personal project and it’ll be wonderful to have it air on Channel 4, which has been my home for over two decades.”
Brown has been showing his skills for more than three decades and he first appeared on TV in 2000 in “Derren Brown: Mind Control”. He earned Lawrence Olivier awards for best entertainment because if his 2006 show “Something Wicked This Way Comes” and his 2012 show “Svengali”. In 2019, he made his Broadway debut with his stage show “Secret.” The entire collection of Brown’s works can be found on the VOD service All 4.
Brown expressed his joy and gratitude towards Channel 4 for allowing him creative freedom and pushing boundaries to innovate as much as possible. “Derren Brown: Showman” is scheduled to air on Channel 4 at the end of April.
