Paramount and eOne are set to release their latest film “Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves” this weekend. The movie is an adaptation of the popular role-playing game and made $5.6 million during its previews at the domestic box office. It will be competing with “John Wick: Chapter 4,” which was last weekend’s box office champion. It is expected to be a close battle between the two movies.

It follows a group of fantasy adventurers, including Chris Pine as the singing bard Edgin Darvis, Michelle Rodriguez as the ferocious barbarian Holga Kilgore, Justice Smith as the wild magic sorcerer Simon Aumar, and Sophia Lillis as the tiefling druid Doric. These are all classes that real-life Dungeons and Dragons players can use to create their personalized characters. The team of thieves turned heroes must work together to defeat an evil Red Wizard and save Edgin’s daughter, played by Chloe Coleman.
The cast also includes Regé-Jean Page from “Bridgerton” as the ageless paladin Xenk Yendar and Hugh Grant as the smarmy rogue Forge Fitzwilliam. The movie features various monsters from the Dungeons and Dragons universe, such as the displacer beast, a gelatinous cube, an owlbear, and a colorful assortment of dragons.
