The scheduled release date for the second season of Andor on Disney Plus is August 2024.
At the Lucasfilm Studio Showcase panel of the Star Wars Celebration, executive producer Tony Gilroy and cast members, including Diego Luna and Andy Serkis, revealed the expected time frame for the release.
According to Gilroy, filming started in November and is currently at the halfway point. The plan is to continue filming until August and stay on schedule. Post-production is expected to take a year before the film is released in August of the following year.
“We started shooting in November, we’re about halfway. We’re gonna shoot through August. We’re on exact schedule. [We’ll] finish in August, spend another year on post. I suppose we’ll come out the following August.”
In the presentation, several clips from Season 2 were shown featuring the reunion of Cassian, Dedra, Syril, and Bix. A voiceover mentioned the expectation of their return and emphasized the importance of standing together to avoid being crushed.
Gilroy alluded to a potential Season 2 and mentioned the destruction of the Death Star, expressing confidence in the production team’s ability to achieve it, stating “We make that happen.”
The Andor team discussed the show’s origins and its quick expansion. Gilroy commented on the confidentiality of their initial visit and the excitement of now being involved in the community.
For three years, we have been engaged in a consistent and steady effort towards completing our work. Our goal is to finish it with utmost diligence and dedication, in order to earn your approval.
Filming for the second season of Andor, which will cover events leading up to Rogue One, commenced in November. This is the first substantial update following the announcement that the first season will span a year.
Andor, which came out last year, was well-received by critics. Our evaluation of the first season found that it ranks highly among this year’s TV shows and is on par with Star Wars’ previous productions.
